1988: Happytails Ponies
WOOSIE
Aqua earth pony with yellow mane and tail, yellow mice symbol, pink ring around tail.
So just to confuse things completely, this is Woosie. The traditional, ordinary version of this pony is the one shown above, in aqua and yellow with a yellow symbol. However, for some reason known only to Hasbro, there exists two versions of Woosie. And to this day, collectors do not have her completely figured out. The lavender version of Woosie also features a dark pink symbol in the same style as the aqua one, and she has purple eyes instead of butterscotch.
WOOSIE - "Lavender"
There is one school of thought which suggests that lavender Woosie is a European variation, and I have to admit that mine (shown above) is the ONLY Woosie I have EVER found at a carboot sale over here. However, I think that that explanation is an unlikely one. Whether the set was sold in other countries or not is something I'm not clear on -but I am fairly sure that the only ones found in the UK are end of line US imports, because of the style of box on the few I've seen with UK price tags. That being the case, then, my Woosie probably came from that issue, which would make her original intended market North America. This would be further supported by several US collectors who have had lavender Woosie from new as children.
Why Hasbro felt the need for two versions of Woosie is open to debate. What is known, however, is that she tends to be more difficult to find than her aqua counterpart!
