1990: Rainbow Curl Ponies
RAINBOW MAGIC
Pale yellow pegasus pony with white, gold, pale pink and aqua ringlets, rainbow streaked wings with stars and dots on her withers (no actual symbol).
I have a real soft spot for Rainbow Magic. She was my childhood Rainbow Curl Pony (not the one pictured, she's an upgrade!) and she was bought for me during the middle of a significant family crisis. Perhaps that is why I remember her special gifts so well - and why I hate the name 'Ringlet' for her ;) In some way, to me, she is a bit of Rainbow Magic.
RAINBOW MAGIC'S SPECIAL TALENT
(UK PONY COMIC)
Her magic trick was to grant people's wishes. I remember that distinctly because that was why I chose her in the first place. I made a wish with her - as you do as a small child, when you believe in ponies - that things would resolve themselves and they did. As a girl, I was convinced this was because of Rainbow Magic's special wish granting ability!
She was one of the first Rainbow Curl Ponies introduced in the comic, in a story which actually had her name :)
Hasbro also seem to have been fond of her, since she appeared on the front of the set's cards and she also featured on the My Little Pony club advertisments for this year.
The pale pink ringlet in her hair can fade to white in sunlight (this isn't a variation) and she can lose her curls quite easily, especially if groomed when wet. She also didn't have a proper symbol - instead she had patterned wings and stars and dots on her front shoulders.
