1988: Sundae Best Ponies
CHOCOLATE CHIP
Pale blue unicorn with pale pink mane and tail, pink and yellow raised ice cream cone symbol
Yeuch. This pony wins my award for the worst My Little Pony scent ever used! Thankfully, like with many scented ponies, this set are often found with their original smell diminished. Less good is the fact that - for unknown reasons - few Chocolate Chips are found with proper pink hair. More so than with other ponies, Chocolate Chip's pale pink hair can both fade out to white or discolour to a yellowish shade - perhaps as a result of her perfume. Whatever the reason, this is not a variation, but aging.
Chocolate Chip was known as "Coco Berry" in the North American release. She played a part in a few comic stories here in the UK, once appearing under then name "Sorbet Surprise" when everyone was still trying to get their names properly straight. She was also technically the first character introduced into the comics, but because of Hasbro's name mix up, Cherry Berry's image was used instead.
She had a special connection with a place called Chocolate Hill, or something along those lines - from which she made chocolate sundaes!!
There is also a variation on Chocolate Chip, found in parts of continental Europe.
CHOCOLATE CHIP: CONTINENTAL VARIANT
I do not know the reasoning behind this variation, but as far as I understand it, she was sold alongside the more normal pink haired version and she is an authentic variation. This Chocolate Chip has straight purple hair rather than curlyish pink hair.
