Fizzy, the clumsy, well meaning, firework pony!

every November, Fizzy would appear without fail in the My Little Pony comic, even years after the pony had stopped being produced. Why? In the United Kingdom, November 5th is Guy Fawkes Night, when we set off fireworks and have bonfire displays to celebrate the failure of a plot to bring down parliament in the seventeenth century. Ponyland's answer to this was Fizziwhizz night, a pony night of fireworks and festivities. And at the heart of this was Fizzy, with her very special Fizziwhizz flowers! For this reason she's always been associated with November in the UK (which was quite a nice touch, in a personal sense, since she was my sister's first pony and my sister's birthday is in November!)

She was always clumsy, though, despite her important responsibilities. There was a story, I remember, with a frog...where she managed to make a complete nusiance of herself. In the cartoon, she was more ditzy than clumsy, and her silly, frivolous nature has made her a favourite with many pony collectors. In another story, she and Applejack created such chaos between them that they wound up riding an umbrella down a stream, meeting an odd flying fish and discovering four new twinkle eye ponies (edition 42). And, in classic style, their comment was - "We lost the umbrella...but we found some new friends!" Thanks to her bubbly nature, nobody could really stay mad at Fizzy for long - although occasionally her clumsiness got her down.

In the cartoon, her magic trick was to make bubbles appear from water, but in the UK comic her magic was always intertwined with her fireworks. There was never a Fizziwhizz party that Fizzy didn't preside over!

Fizzy was sold in many countries worldwide, including the UK.
