1991: Playschool Baby Ponies
BABY COUNT-A-LOT
White baby pony with blue mane and tail, yellow abacus symbol
Baby Count-a-Lot has also suffered from mistaken identity over the years; initially she was called Baby Abacus a lot online, but now, the name has been accepted as Baby Count-a-lot, from UK cards and comics. It seems that the confusion came from her Spanish release, where she was actually called Baby Abacus! But her correct English language name is Count-a-lot.
BABY COUNT-A-LOT - nametag on UK card
She was originally advertised in the First Tooth baby walking pose, but eventually was sold in the more traditional looking up pose, the same pose as her set-mate, Baby Schoolbag. This pose would continue to be popular with Hasbro UK right up to the end of 1994.

She featured as a Pony of the Month on one My Little Pony comic calendar.
Baby Count-a-lot:Reverse Symbol Variation
There is a variation on Baby Count-a-lot, which seems to be either a production error or batch related. Most Baby Count-a-lots have their symbols in the same way as the pony pictured above, with the beads on the abacus towards the pony's tail. This is also shown in the prototype image. A small number (it is not clear how many batches) of Baby Count-a-lots have their symbols the other way around, with the beads closer to the mane of the pony than the tail. These appear to show up more often in continental Europe but it is not a guarantee (I got mine from the UK, so there doesn't seem to be a hard and fast rule). All that is known about this variation is that it is considerably more uncommon than the version with the beads towards the mane.
