1991: Rainbow Baby Ponies

BABY STARBOW

White baby earth pony with dark pink, yellow and DARK PURPLE mane and tail, pink, green and blue rainbow with stars at the end and stars and dot pattern symbol.

Baby Starbow continues to confuse everyone with her two tone hair issue. Like the Rockin' Beat Pony, Pretty Beat, from the same year, she could be sold with either a DARK PURPLE or BLUE stripe in her hair. The one pictured at the top of the page is often referred to as the 'German' version, but she is actually the mainstream European version, including here in the UK. The pony pictured above is my sister's childhood pony which she bought here!

BABY STARBOW (BLUE HAIR VERSION)
The blue haired version of Baby Starbow is more or less the same as the one more commonly found in Europe, and I understand that BOTH versions were available in the North American release, although I have not had it confirmed 100% with MOC proof. The hair on the Blue Haired one seems to be silkier and not so thickly rooted, whereas the Purple Haired one has quite thick hair which is wavy/curly on the purple stripe and more prone to getting rough ends.

Just to confuse the issue, the promotional photos for this set tended to show a baby pony with blue hair. So, Baby Starbow debuted in the comic...with a blue streak in her hair!
