The Birthflower Ponies were an experiment in 1980s pony cloning. I mean that quite literally, as - at least in the mail order release - all of them were the same pose and colour scheme, with the only differences being their symbols. Each pony had a symbol corresponding to the flower for their month, and they are often known by the names of their flowers as well as by their months.

They were some of the earliest Mail Order ponies, but they were not sold in the UK. As can be seen, the above scan comes from a US insert.

ALTERNATIVE BIRTHFLOWER BACKCARD (BACK)

In parts of Europe, there were alternate versions of these Birthflower Ponies. These were mostly in Scandinavia, and had much more variety of colour than the Mail Order set. They are considerably difficult to find and very sought after on the second hand market. Versions exist on small cards with the pony on the right side, but also they exist on typically UK style card, with the text all in English. Several ponies on Hasbro UK artwork packages have been sold in Scandinavia, but this is not an automatic indication of the ponies having been sold in the UK. For some reason, Hasbro UK exported these instead. :(

The Alternate Birthflower ponies were also sold in Australia. Some of the symbols for these ponies were reversed (colours inverted) depending on which location they were sold in.
