1984-5: The Waterfall Playset
SPRINKLES
Lavender pegasus pony with blue mane and tail, blue ducks symbol
I have to admit that, of the early ponies, Sprinkles is a good candidate for the most manky pony Hasbro put out. Whether it's a result of being sold with a water-based playset, or whether it was just carelessness on the part of her hair rooting team, the fact remains that Sprinkles is very, very difficult to find in attractive and decent condition. Her hair is almost always flat, shapeless and lank, and her head is often a different colour from her body. She is arguably lavender, but most Sprinkles's that are found are closer to beige. This isn't a variation - it's a sad result of time.
She is significant because she is the only early pegasus without a glittered symbols. She was sold globally with the waterfall, though she was replaced in the UK in 1985 by the more attractive Cascade.
Sprinkles was a keystone of the comic stories, being in charge of the waterfall with her oddly named friend Duck Soup (who was a girl!). There is also a Mail Order of Sprinkles who is pink, rather like Firefly. She is quite hard to find. She was only sold in North America as part of an offer in the late eighties.

The picture below nicely illustrates the colour change, symbol change, hairstyle change for Sprinkles as a Mail Order. She is much more like Firefly in tone, though a shade lighter, and with painted symbols.
