1987: Party Ponies
STRAWBERRY FAIR
White earth pony with red mane and tail, red strawberries and green vines symbol spread across haunches and back, small strawberry on nose.
Strawberry Fair (known as "Sugarberry" in North America) is the most memorable Party Pony to me - and that's probably because she was the first one I bought as a small girl of about six.
STRAWBERRY FAIR: CORRECT UK RELEASE NAME
(from Dancing Butterflies' UK backcard, 1987-8)
She definitely played her part in the My Little Pony comic - and as many ponies did in the UK, she had a special magic trick to do with making lots of strawberries! I remember in particular one story involving her, Fifi and the Hair Salon, which must have come around the time these ponies were released. I seem to remember Strawberry Fair having some kind of ability to make strawberries grow when she wiggled her nose, but I might be mistaken. This is certainly not mentioned on her backcard, which talks about garden parties instead.
STRAWBERRY FAIR: BACKCARD STORY
(Strawberry Fair's backcard, 1987-8)
My Strawberry Fair has been re-curled after years of living with me - but she was originally sold with curly hair in both the UK and North American release. This hair is prone to losing it's curl, however, and frizz on Strawberry Fair ponies seems quite common!
