1984: Baby Ponies Year 3
BABY SURPRISE
White baby pegasus pony with neon yellow mane and tail, GLITTERING purple balloon symbol
I have to say that I don't have much recollection of Baby Surprise as a character in the comics. I do remember she was there quite a lot, always drawn in the same pose (two hooves on the ground and the back ones in the air! And I just KNOW any UK people who've had a comic or two or the fact file know exactly what I'm talking about!)
The Fact file is cute on the subject of this baby, however. According to the entry, she used 'baby magic' to make balloons and these balloons helped her to fly (well, baby wings are only tiny!). I thought that was kinda neat, but I can't remember it ever being actually used in a comic story. She also had a brief part in Escape From Catrina, when Megan is putting the Baby Ponies to bed!
Baby Surprise was never sold in the UK, though she was one of the original two baby pegasus ponies sold in the North American release.

BABY SURPRISE (Painted Symbol. Continental Europe) |
Baby Surprise had a re-vamp and a re-issue via Mail Order in the early nineties in North America. Now "pearlised", she had suddenly gone a startling shade of yellow. (Was this Hasbro having a little joke with us, considering how easily the original Baby Surprise's plastic can yellow??).
In Continental Europe (certainly France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland) there was a release of Baby Surprise on card with just a bottle accessory. This Baby Surprise had a painted symbol.
My apologies for the slightly off-whiteness of my Baby Surprises ;)
