1989: Perfume Puff Ponies
DAISY SWEET
Dark aqua earth pony with poofy gold hair, white perfume bottle and pink hearts symbol, scented.
Although the whole set was sold in the UK, distribution must have been a touch wonky, because I never ever saw any of them in stores in my part of the country, and finding them at carboot sales round here has also always been something of a nightmare.
Therefore I can only conclude that some areas had them more liberally than others.
WHITE HAIRED VARIATION
There has always been much argument about the existance of a Daisy Sweet with white hair. It is true that her gold hair colours can and do fade out to white (all except the forelock, usually!) and therefore authenticating the variation has been difficult.
Daisy Sweet (White Hair)
However, this is one variant in which I am inclined to believe. Some years ago I found a Mint in Box Daisy Sweet in US packaging at the local carboot sale. Her hair was pure white and her box, though a touch battered, did not appear to be faded. Therefore I believed she was a white haired Daisy Sweet. The seal on her box has been broken, though her hair is still fastened in place. She has a yellow ribbon, flower pick and three hearts hair clip - but these may well have been randomly put in the box and might not be original to her at all. What IS clear however is that she has very distinctly white hair, right down to the forelock. She is not faded, you can see it at her roots ;) She's a natural white!
WHITE HAIRED DAISY SWEET: FORELOCK & MAIN CLOSE UPS & MIB
When I first started posting about this online, most people told me she had faded/was not an authentic variation, but over the past several years, more have surfaced and it seems further experimentation has been carried out. White Haired Daisy Sweet is, therefore, now acknowledged as a legitimate variation. The reason for it is completely unknown - but it's nice to know I'm not mad :)
As regards Daisy Sweet and her comic persona, in logical pony style her special magic was to do with making scented daisies appear - at one point using them to form a bridge over a rushing stream!
