1987: Mountain Boy Ponies
LIGHTNING
Orange shire pony with yellow mane and tail (white streak in mane) white cloud with 2 yellow lightning bolts symbol. FRECKLED.
As a child, Lightning was undoubtedly my favourite Mountain Boy Pony. As well as being suave and debonair (I swear there's some flirting going on in one story with, I think, Confetti), he had a special magic power - he was able to disappear and reappear as will. His magic was obviously linked to his name, for he could disappear and appear in a flash just like lightning itself, but the gift itself can be likened to the "winking in and out" that unicorns do in the cartoon series.
Lightning was also a friendly, mischievous and playful Mountain Boy pony. He was a great favourite with baby ponies - particularly the cantankerous Baby Cuddles - and loved Hide and Seek best of all games. He was the first boy pony Baby Lucky ever spoke to on the top of Misty Mountain - and therefore the first Mountain Boy Pony to be introduced!
A common collector mistake is to call Lightning "Lightening". The pony is called after the element, and doesn't have an "e" in the middle of his name :)
I haveta admit, I still think he's a handsome critter, even now :)
