1986: Flutter Ponies
MORNING GLORY
Light aqua flutter pony with neon yellow mane and tail, green and purple morning glory plant symbol, irridescent wings (often missing).
I liked Morning Glory for two reasons. Firstly, she snapped everyone out of that pastel rut the rest of her set seem interminably buried in, with that bright neon hair. And secondly, after having seen My Little Pony the Movie, how can you not love her? Sweet little Morning Glory, rescued from a Wishing Well by Spike, the Grundles and Baby Lickety Split, she turned the scale and got the Flutter Ponies to help rid Ponyland of the smooze. Always understanding and never judgemental, she was again the canny heroine in the End of Flutter Valley, befriending her bee captor and making a difference.
She did not have such a sparkling resume in the comic, but she did make appearances. She was also given a second year release in the UK along with Rosedust and four new characters - possibly because of her movie appearance.
Like with all the Flutter Ponies, Morning Gloryhad a rough"poem" for a backcard story, which was also printed up in the Fact File. They give the vaguest hint to the pony's intended character, and her's was as follows:
"Flutter Ponies bring good luck,
In a very special way.
When rainclouds gather overhead,
Morning Glory will brighten the day!."
