1989: Dance 'n' Prance Ponies
TWIRLER
Pink unicorn pony with dark pink mane and tail, blue floral brooch (mine above is discoloured), blue records symbol.
Twirler wins the award hands down for the most common Dance and Prance Pony second hand. Whether it's because she's pink or because she's a unicorn, something about this pony really seemed to catch children's imaginations.
Or perhaps - here in the UK at least - it had something to do with her special magical abilities. Aside from being the one who discovered the Merry Go Round Ponies in the story 'Twirler and the Whispering Whirligig', she also had the ability to turn ordinary musical records into flying saucers for her friends and she to fly across Ponyland on.
Yes, you really did read that right.
If nothing else, Twirler's possession of a record player as opposed to a cassette deck neatly dates her as a wannabe eighties pony, even though she continued to be sold into 1990.
I guess she secretly wanted to be a 'JEM' girl...
