1986-7: Twinkle Eye Ponies
SKY ROCKET
Purple earth pony with red, gold, pink and white mane and tail, red fireworks symbol. JEWELLED EYES.
It's funny, but the connitations of a pony like Sky Rocket are probably completely different to a child in the United States as they are to a child in the UK. I always associate Sky Rocket and her fireworks symbol with the fifth of November and Guy Fawkes night, though I suspect when Hasbro dreamt her up, she was meant more as a delicate reminder of the fourth of July.
I don't remember that she had a particularly important role to play in the comic, as a distinctive character. She certainly was there from time to time, but never really emphatic. She was the first of two ponies to share this name, and both would have connections with fireworks.
In the UK release, Sky Rocket was sold on a whiteish card with Locket, Speedy, Tic Tac Toe, Fizzy and Sweetie making up her set.

In Germany, the set seems to have been more or less the same, but the cards were bordered in orange and bore a different design. These cards have often been confused with the UK release (by me as much as any!) because of their similarity to the UK design for the Party Ponies of the same year. Truth is, it's not completely clear whether both versions or just the one style were sold in the UK. Not enough packaged Twinkle Eye Ponies from that release have become available on the Ebay market yet to make any kind of guess, but no orange-bordered cards have yet surfaced in English.
