sotsugyou M: the seiyuu

Midorikawa-san is a fairly prolific seiyuu with a very distinctive voice. Some people don't like it, some people do - I'm one of the latter category :) As a singer and as a vocal performer, Midorikawa-san is one of the best there is.

I first came across him as a Seiyuu when I watched Fushigi Yuugi, which in most respects is the base root of my Seiyuu fanhood (lol). He voiced Tamahome (the male lead) in that - although at that point I wasn't actively chasing down Midorikawa-san's stuff. Unfortunately, Tamahome's songs and character are a little bit in the typical hero category, so at first he didn't grab my notice (although I became more addicted as time went on). Little by little, however, and the more I watched Yuugi, the more I wanted to know what else he'd done. I found he was in Weiss Kreuz (Schuldich) when I first watched that, and that was interesting, to see him cast in a completely different kind of role from the 'hero' Tamahome. And then I discovered E.M.U and the rest was history.

Midorikawa-san is still a very popular seiyuu, voicing roles of various types including Sora from Sukisho (and doing additional odd Sukisho things, as pictured with Miyata Kouki and, er, the pants, above...). His more recent roles include the enigmatic Shi Seiran from Saiunkoku Monogatari, as well as a new venture into the world of Neoromance as part of the newest Neoroma series.

Aside from his seiyuu exploits, he's also released solo records and plays the saxophone, as well as the trumpet and the cornet. In a recent Animegiga interview, he claimed that being a seiyuu was like a "dream that continues to unfold" (picture to the left).

Although he's possibly best known for his central role in Gundam Wing, I've never seen that anime. My fanhood of Midorikawa-san's work is entirely without the gloom that appears to be Heero Yuy. :)
